Shift Control Cable

The first step to replace the Shift Cable requires setting the park brake and chocking the wheels. The transmission shift cable terminal must first be detached from the transmission manual shift lever pin so you can slide the retainer backward to free the cable from its bracket. The front floor console extension needs removal before disconnection of the transmission shift cable retainers from the support bracket. The floor panel grommet and cable assembly should come out allowing the transmission shift cable retainer to advance forward before extracting the cable from the transmission control base. Disconnect the transmission shift cable terminal from the shift lever pin then eliminate the cable from the vehicle. The terminal end of the new transmission shift cable needs to connect to the shift lever pin during installation. After inserting the cable into the transmission control base users should slide the retainer towards the rear until it locks the cable into position and verify that the grommet shows the paint dot at the top. The floor panel receives installation of the grommet combined with cable assembly followed by retainer attachment to the support bracket then the front floor console extension can be reinstalled. The transmission shift cable terminal needs connection to the transmission manual shift lever pin before installation into the bracket. Afterward, move the retainer forward to secure the cable while making necessary length adjustments.

The process to replace the AF40-6 automatic transmission range selector lever cable requires setting the park brake followed by wheel chocking. The cable terminal of the transmission range selector lever must be disconnected from transmission manual shift lever pin before sliding the retainer to free the cable from its bracket. The front floor console extension must be removed first followed by disconnecting the transmission range selector lever cable retainers from the support bracket. The floor panel grommet with cable assembly must be removed before sliding the transmission range selector lever cable retainer forward and pulling the cable out from the transmission control base. Separate terminal of the transmission range selector lever cable from shift lever pin and take the cable out of the vehicle. Install the new transmission range selector lever cable by placing it into position with the terminal attached to the shift lever pin. To install the cable on the transmission control base you should position the retainer behind the component then move the grommet to face the paint dot up after locking the retainer in place. Proceed with installing the grommet and cable assembly within the floor panel before you establish retainers to the support bracket and you can reinstall the front floor console extension. Conclude this process by linking the transmission range selector lever cable terminal with the transmission manual shift lever pin then place the cable inside the bracket before moving the retainer forward for retention. Adjust the cable as necessary.
