    Q:
How to replace the parking brake cable on Chevrolet Aveo? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the Parking Brake Cable requires releasing the parking brake lever and removing both rear wheels from the vehicle. The first step involves the removal of both retaining rings which hold the parking brake cables. After that discard the plastic sleeves from each side of the vehicle. Start by discharging the parking brake lever before you remove the brake cable from both the backing plate and shoe lever. After removing the cable support bolts from the axle bracket you must separate the rear axle mounting bracket bolts on both sides. Finally, extract the underbody bracket bolts allowing you to pull the cable assembly together with the parking brake cables. Cables should be removed from the underbody side bracket on each side by removing the brake cable bolt then extracting the cables and parking brake cables from the welded body bracket. New Parking Brake Cable installation requires passing it through the Brake Backing Plate while using a new cable if the original shows damage or distress and proceed to connect it with the parking brake shoe lever. The Brake Backing Plate requires insertion of the plastic sleeve while applying the retaining ring until the Parking Brake Cable reaches its proper route. Replace the brake drums before tightening the caulking nut to 200 nm (147 ft. Lbs.), then install the rear wheels. Screw the Parking Brake Cable through underbody side brackets which exist on each side of the frame and near one of those brackets and torque those fasteners to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). The parking cable needs installation onto each side's rear axle brackets with bolts set to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) before passing the parking brake cables through the welded body bracket. Finish the process by modifying the Parking Brake Cable length.
