To remove the valve lifters, you will need to remove the Cylinder Head and gasket first and then remove valve lifter guide bolts, next the valve lifters and pivot. In the event that any valve lifters stick while in gum or varnish deposits, use the valve lifter remover (J 3049-A) to help to extract them. After removing the valve lifters, sort or sign the components for easy re-fixing and then clean and examine the valve lifters. When reinstalling, make sure the valve lifters are reinstalled in their original positions, before lubing them as well as the lifter guide bores on the engine block with a clean engine oil then inserting the lifters into the lifter guide, align the flat area at the top of the lifter to the flat area in the lifter guide bore. After that, install valve lifters and guide to the engine block, and then tighten the valve lifter guide bolt to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) before installing the Cylinder Head and gasket.
