  • Q: How to replace the Transmission Oil Cooler on a 4L80-E/4L85-E on 2003 GMC Savana 2500?
A: In order to remove the transmission fluid oil cooler on a 4l80-e/4l85-e, start by removing the grille assembly and removing the 2 lines attached to the oil cooler. Then, remove the lines from the push clips of the oil cooler mounting bracket and raise the vehicle. Remove the lower bolts from the mounting bracket of the oil cooler, then, lower the vehicle to gain access to the removal of the upper bolts to enable removal of the oil cooler. When installing, put the oil cooler into the car, and the upper bolts have to be inserted into the oil cooler bracket itself and tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Lift up the vehicle and then install the lower bolts to the oil cooler bracket and tighten them down to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) and lower the vehicle. Mount the oil cooler lines to the oil cooler and attach the lines onto the push clips on the mounting bracket prior to putting the grille assembly back on.
