GMC Terrain Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the shift cable for the range selector lever on GMC Terrain?
    A:
The first step in replacing the shift cable requires setting the park brake and chocking the wheels. The transmission shift cable terminal should be removed from the transmission manual shift lever pin before sliding the retainer backward to free the cable from its bracket. The left front floor lower console extension must be taken out. Remove the floor panel grommet with cable assembly by detaching the support bracket retainers of the transmission shift cable. To disconnect the cable from the transmission control base, firstly slide the retainer forward prior to removing the cable. Next, detach the terminal from the shift lever pin and then completely remove the cable from the vehicle. The new transmission shift cable gets installed when placed into position in the vehicle while terminal is connected to the shift lever pin. Fasten the cable to its position on the transmission control base while utilizing retainer as a locking mechanism by moving it toward the back. After placing the grommet along with cable assembly into floor panel openings, you must install retainers to support bracket and afterward install the front floor console. Proceed by attaching terminal to the transmission manual shift lever pin and afterward adjust the cable while sliding the retainer forward to secure the lock position.
