The Saturn LS2 that debuted for the 2000 model year only in the L-Series line and was made exclusively, came equipped with an L81 engine, a 3.0-liter V6, producing 182 hp, which swelled up the performance of Saturn's previous four-cylinder offerings significantly. Coupled with a 4-speed 4T40-E automatic transmission, the LS2 gave smooth driving and effective acceleration that was good for city or highway. Although, anti-lock-brakes and traction control were available, they were options as opposed to standard equipment. As compared to Saturn's previous S-Series models, the LS2 was a mid-size sedan with more comfort and stability, with a more refined suspension system designed for predictable handling. The LS2 had Saturn's signature polymer body panels on the front fenders and doors, but the areas covered by steel panels were used for the structural integrity. Aerodynamic design factors contributed to the fuel efficiency and the modern look. To keep the LS2 in tip-top shape as far as performance and reliability goes, Saturn owners should focus on authentic OEM Saturn or GM ACDelco parts for the proper fitment and uphold the original Saturn driving characteristics post-discontinuation.
