    Q:
How to replace the brake caliper bracket on Chevrolet Prizm? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the Brake Caliper Bracket, you will first lift and support the vehicle and then take off the tire and wheel assembly. If properly fitted with an antilock brake system (ABS), then disconnect the bolt holding the abs wheel speed sensor and the sensor from the Steering Knuckle and place the sensor as at the side. Use a c-clamp to compress the front brake caliper after which, complete removal of the 2 caliper guide pin bolts (1,2) making sure that brake components don't hang out on the flexible brake hoses to avoid pinch. Remove the caliper housing from the caliper bracket and suspend it on a wire so as not to damage the brake hose. Next, take off the 2 caliper bracket mounting bolts and the caliper bracket followed by the 2 caliper guide pins, the 2 caliper guide pin seals and the caliper bolt sleeve from the bracket. For installation, lubricate the 2 new guide pin seals with lubriplate lubricant, gm p/n 12346293, or an equivalent nlgi #2 category lb or gc-lb lubricant, then use a 19 mm socket and hammer to install the seals into the caliper bracket , ensuring the metal plate fits snugly. Apply the said lubricant to the 2 guide pins and the caliper bolt sleeve. Insert the guide pin (with the caliper bolt sleeve) in the upper part of caliper bracket and the pin without the sleeve in the lower part. Mount the caliper bracket to the vehicle by screwing in the 2 caliper bracket mounting bolts to 88 nm (65 ft. Lbs.). Mount the caliper onto the caliper bracket, applying lubriplate lubricant, gm p/n 12346293, on the caliper pin bolts while making certain that there is no condition of a fooled brake hose. Replace the two caliper guide pin bolts with a pre-installed torque of 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.) and then put back the abs wheel speed sensor with the bolt at its new location on the knuckle, with the pre-installed torque of 7.8 nm (69 inch lbs.). Lastly, reinstall the tire and wheal assembly and the vehicle lifted.
