    Q:
How to replace the rear brake calipers on Buick LaCrosse? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the rear brake caliper one has to first check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir; if it is at or above the midway point between maximum-full and minimum allowable levels, discard fluid to the midway point. Lift and support the vehicle and also remove the tire and wheel assembly. Let off pressure from the park brake system at the equalizer and remove the front and rear cables at the connector clip. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake lever connected on the brake caliper as well as the caliper bracket. Detach brake hose to caliper bolt, and remove the brake hose from brake caliper then discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. Plug the holes in the brake caliper and brake hose to avoid losing and contaminating the fluid, then remove the brake caliper bolts and caliper. For installation line up the indentions on the piston face with the pin on the Brake Pad, and check bracket bolt guide assembly, and Brake Pad hardware and brake caliper on to the caliper bracket and make sure the guide boots are not damaged. Mount the brake caliper bolts and tighten them to 34 (Nm 25 lb ft). Unscrew the plugs at the end of the brake hose and install new copper brake hose gaskets after which assemble the brake hose bolt with the new gaskets onto the brake hose. Mount the brake hose to the caliper bolt to the brake caliper, with the hose held up as the nut is tightened to 54 n.m (40 lb ft). Mount the park brake cable onto the park brake bracket of the caliper and link it to the park brake lever. Bleed brake system: slowly press the pedal down to 2/3 travel distance, then release, repeat until a firm pedal should be gained and the engine is off. Modify the park brake system, re-install the tire and wheel assembly, and drive the vehicle down.
