    Q:
How to replace the rear brake calipers on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before caliper replacement starts. The fluid level should guide your actions: you need no removal when at the midpoint yet need to drain fluid to the midpoint when the level is above the correct spot. Begin by safely lifting the vehicle and removing the tire along with wheel assembly. Remove the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and brake hose from the caliper as you discard the two copper brake hose gaskets that might stick to the caliper or hose end. Secure your plug to the brake caliper opening then the brake hose before you remove the brake caliper guide pin bolts to extract the caliper from the mounting bracket. Check both caliper slide boots for signs of damage. Change the slides and boots when required. Fit the brake caliper onto its mounting bracket before tightening the brake caliper guide pin bolts to 31 N.m (23 lb ft). New copper brake hose gaskets need installation plus the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt needs tightening to 45 N.m (33 lb ft) when the plugs from the brake caliper opening and brake hose are removed. Following fluid bleeding of the hydraulic brake system reinstall the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
