    Q:
How to replace the front brake calipers on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before switching the front brake caliper examine the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If it stands at the midpoint no fluid needs draining but you should decrease it to the midpoint if the level is above that mark. Lift up the vehicle while ensuring support and then take off the tire and wheel assembly. Take off the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and brake hose from the caliper before disposing of the two copper brake hose gaskets that may stick to the caliper and hose ends. You must block all openings on the brake caliper and hose to keep fluid in while you unscrew and lift the caliper away from its mounting bracket. Check if the caliper slide boots show damage and replace them if needed. Mount the brake caliper on the mounting bracket while tightening its guide pin bolts to 31 N.m (23 lb ft). Insert new copper brake hose gaskets into the opening of the brake caliper and hose before you attach the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt onto the brake hose with appropriate torque. Join the brake hose and inlet fitting bolt to their position at the caliper by fastening them in with a torque setting of 45 N.m. Phase the hydraulic brakes then put back the tire components and place the car on the ground.
