    Q:
How to replace the emblem/nameplate on the rear compartment lid on Chevrolet Cavalier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Protection tape must cover the mounting surface before installing new rear compartment lid nameplates and alignment tapes help maintain proper placement. Apply a Heat Gun (J 25070) for thirty seconds while maintaining a 152 mm (6 in) distance to the surface area. Circular motion heating will soften the emblem/nameplate. The emblem/nameplate requires removing carefully through the use of a plastic flat-bladed tool. Body panels require removing adhesive with a 3M(TM) Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk (3M(TM) P/N 07501) but plastic panels need a lint-free cloth with Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha and a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixture for adhesive removal. After drying the area the text will be applied to with the same cloth and solution. Install CHEVROLET, CAVALIER LS, CAVALIER 2.4Z, and CHEVY BOW TIE emblems whenever possible, following the defined dimensions when location marks are unavailable. Heat the mounting surface to 80-105°F (27-41°C) using the Heat Gun (J 25070) when appropriate to maintain the emblem/nameplate temperature at 85-90°F (29-32°C). After careful adhesive backing avoidance begin by removing protective film then set the emblem/nameplate at designated markings before firmly applying it to the surface. Complete the installation by removing protective tape from the mounting surface.
