    Q:
How to replace the alternator on Cadillac Catera? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the Alternator replacement by first disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the intake air resonator. Begin by removing the Drive Belt followed by raising the vehicle to work on it. Begin by detaching the cooling duct from the generator duct cap while removing the terminal nut of the field coil and its connecting lead from the generator. The Battery Cable's positive nut also needs removal before extracting its corresponding cable from the generator. You must remove these assembly elements: generator upper mounting nut , generator lower mounting nut, and generator through bolts (1,2). Start by lowering the vehicle and then uninstall both the generator and generator cooling duct cap screws along with the generator cooling duct cap itself. Place the generator cooling duct cap first then install its cap screws until torque reaches 1 n.m (9 lb in). Under vehicle elevation, position the generator into its installation position and install the generator through bolts (1,2). First tighten the generator lower mounting nut to 40 n.m (30 lb ft) before securing the generator upper mounting nut to 40 n.m (30 lb ft). Secure the positive Battery Cable to the generator through its dedicated cable nut and tighten it to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Proceed by connecting the generator with the field coil terminal lead while securing it with the field coil terminal lead nut then tighten to a torque of 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). Begin by reconnecting the generator cooling duct to the generator cooling duct cap. Lower the vehicle then reinstall the Drive Belt and intake air resonator before attaching the negative Battery Cable.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Alternator on Cadillac Catera? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Alternator replacement begins by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by removing the intake air resonator and Drive Belt. The coolant heater must be removed before lifting the vehicle onto proper supports. The first step involves disconnecting the generator cooling duct from its cap and unfastening both the field coil terminals with leads and battery terminals with leads. Begin by removing first the upper mounting nut and then the lower mounting nut followed by the lower mounting bolt. Push out the upper mounting bolt through the generator and bracket then lower the vehicle while removing the generator and its generator cooling duct cap screws and cap. Begin generator installation by attaching the generator cooling duct cap while tightening its screws to 1 n.m (9 lb in). Position the generator where needed while lifting the vehicle and installing the upper mounting bolt followed by the lower mounting bolt . Begin by installing the lower mounting nut followed by tightening the lower mounting bolt and nut to 35 n.m (26 lb ft) before tightening the upper mounting bolt and nut to 40 n.m (30 lb ft). Start by installing the field coil terminal lead with its nut then tighten the nut to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). After that attach the battery terminal lead with its nut followed by tightening the nut to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Next install the generator cooling duct before lowering the vehicle and then add the coolant heater system if equipped and then put on the Drive Belt while finishing with the intake air resonator. Finally attach the battery negative cable.
