    Q:
How to Remove and Replace Front Coil Springs and Shock Absorber Using the Strut Spring Compressor (J45400) on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
To get rid of and substitute the suspension strut, one should begin with the help of the strut spring compressor (J45400). First, remove the strut from the vehicle and fit that into the strut spring compressor (J45400). Make sure that the spring is compressed by rotating the compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed. Remove the upper strut mount and coil spring by loosening the compressor forcing screw. Use a 45 torx(R) socket to position the shaft of the strut while using a strut rod socket or its equivalent to remove the upper strut mount nut. After removing the upper strut mount/flange and coil spring from the strut spring compressor (J45400), installing the coil spring can only be used; reconnect the upper strut mount to the strut spring compressor (J45400). Once more, turn the spring compressor forcing screw (J45400) until the coil spring is compressed and install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount, and loosely install the strut retaining nut. Fasten the strut shaft by using a 45 torx(R) socket for holding the shaft and strut rod socket or similar socket for installing the upper strut mount through the nut of the mount turned to 75 n.m (55 lb ft). Lastly, take out the strut from the strut spring compressor (J45400) and place it back in the vehicle.
