    Q:
How to replace the alternator on Chevrolet Venture? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin your Alternator replacement process by disconnecting the battery ground (negative) cable from the battery. You must turn and fix the engine to access the bolts on the rear generator assembly. Start by removing the generator b+ terminal nut followed by the b+ lead and then the generator electrical connector. Remove the Drive Belt from the generator and separate the generator front bolt followed by the removal of all generator rear bolts. Gently extract the generator from its bracket position and place it above the drive axle. Start by removing the Drive Belt tensioner and generator bracket before separating power steering pipes from their power steering pipe retainer. Extract the fuel pressure test port (schrader valve) cap from the fuel injector rail but keep power steering pipes attached to the Power Steering Pump. The Power Steering Pump should be lowered in front of the timing chain cover to make the generator installation easier. First detach the electrical harness which is attached to the right fender well retainer then set it aside before removing the generator from your vehicle. Position the generator above the drive axle before securing it to the vehicle for installation purposes. Secure the electrical harness to its retainer on the right fender well before installing the Power Steering Pump back onto the engine. Reinstall the fuel pressure test port (schrader valve) cap to the fuel injector rail and connect the power steering pipes to their retainer. The installation requires generator bracket and Drive Belt tensioner assembly before mounting the generator onto the generator bracket. Secure the generator front bolt and rear bolts by tightening them to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Secure the Drive Belt along with the generator electrical connector and generator b+ lead and generator b+ terminal nut in place while tightening the nut to 13 n.m (115 lb in). Attach the engine mount strut bracket bolts and return the engine rearward before repeating the ground (negative) battery cable connection to the battery.
