Alternator

Start by cutting off the negative Battery Cable and taking off the Drive Belt to replace the Alternator. Remove the front suspension crossmember followed by draining the cooling system. Begin by separating the bolt of the generator coolant hose assembly from the generator port then disconnect the coolant hose assembly from its generator port attachment. Detach the generator electrical connector before pulling the starter cable terminal off the stud by sliding the boot back and removing the starter cable nut. Start by removing the upper generator bolt and idler pulley through a process that involves removing the thru-bolt and nut followed by the idler pulley assembly and concluding with the generator. Position the generator first and use the upper generator bolt to secure it before tightening all generator bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Secure the idler pulley assembly through the bolting process while tightening the idler pulley bolt to 50 n.m (37 lb ft), followed by the idler pulley nut to the same torque. Attach the starter cable terminal to the generator while securing it with 20 n.m (15 lb ft) of torque on the starter cable nut. Slide the boot over the generator stud. Secure the generator coolant hose assembly to the generator through a bolt that requires 27 n.m (20 lb ft) tightening force. Next, connect the generator electrical connector. Finally install the front suspension crossmember followed by filling the cooling system and reattaching the negative Battery Cable. The next step will be to install the Drive Belt.

To remove the generator on the lc3 - 8 cyl, 4.4l, sc, dohc, first remove the negative Battery Cable, drain cooling system using ge 47716. Take off the generator Drive Belt and front suspension crossmember. Remove the bolt from generator coolant hose assembly and separate the coolant hose from the generator port. Disconnect the generator electrical connector and disconnect the starter cable terminal from the starter cable nut and boot and stud. Then remove the upper generator bolt, thru-bolt for the idler pulley, idler pulley nut, and the idler pulley assembly before removing the generator. For installation, place the generator and fasten it with the upper bolt to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Install the idler pulley assembly, torque the idler pulley bolt and nut to 50 n.m (37 lb-ft). Connect the starter cable terminal to the generator stud, tighten the starter cable nut onto it at 20 n.m (15 lb ft) then slide the boot over the stud. Reattach the generator coolant hose assembly and secure the bolt to 27 n.m (20 lb. Ft), and attach the generator electrical connector. Reinstall the front suspension crossmember, fill the cooling system with ge 47716, reconnect the negative Battery Cable and, finally, install the generator Drive Belt.

The first step to replace the generator (LC3) demands the removal of the generator Drive Belt's installation. First disconnect the negative Battery Cable and use cooling system draining and filling procedure (GE 47716) to drain the cooling system. The process begins with front suspension crossmember removal before disconnecting the coolant hose between generator and port using generator coolant hose assembly bolt removal. Remove the generator electrical connector before you detach the starter cable terminal by moving the boot back and extracting the starter cable nut and disassembling the terminal from its stud. The process starts with removing the upper generator bolt then the idler pulley thru-bolt and idler pulley nut before moving to the idler pulley assembly and generator. Place the generator into position then fasten the upper bolt with a torque setting of 50 nm (37 lb ft). First install the idler pulley assembly along with its bolt before tightening the nut and bolt to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Fasten the starter cable terminal to the generator stud then apply torque of 20 nm (15 lb ft) to the starter cable nut before putting the boot into position on the stud. Secure the generator coolant hose assembly using the bolt before tightening to 27 nm (20 lb ft). Afterward, connect the generator electrical connector. Put back the front suspension crossmember while filling the cooling system and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable followed by generator Drive Belt installation.

Position the generator and install the upper generator bolts.

Detach the bolt from the generator coolant hose assembly and disconnect the coolant hose from the generator port.
