    Q:
How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before working on the intermediate Steering Shaft make sure the vehicle faces straight forward with its Steering Column fastened in the lock position to guard against sir coil assembly damage. Turn the wheel to the left to expose the upper to lower intermediate shaft bolts while using the Steering Column lock pin (J 42640) to secure the Steering Column alignment during installation. You must begin by removing the upper to lower intermediate shaft bolts. After that you need to remove the lower coupling shield and the lower coupling pinch bolt before detaching the lower coupling from the steering gear. Remove the vehicle's lower intermediate shaft from its position on the upper intermediate shaft before extraction. The installation requires operators to slide the lower intermediate shaft onto the upper intermediate shaft before coupling it to the steering gear. Fasten the lower coupling pinch bolt within the lower coupling until torque reaches 34 n.m (25 lb ft). As part of the installation process bolt the lower to upper intermediate shafts retaining bolts to a torque of 48 n.m (35 lb ft) before installing and tightening the lower steering coupling shield's screw to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in).
