    Q:
How to replace the Shift Knob on GMC Acadia? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should begin by applying the parking brake and taking out the floor console left extension panel before starting the acadia Shift Knob replacement. The vehicle key should be set to run without engine start while disconnecting the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector. A flat-bladed tool should be gently inserted behind the trim ring and Shift Knob to apply pressure until the ring separates from the knob so it drops 13.0 mm (0.5 inches) to reveal the retaining screw. The process of removing the Shift Knob screw should be followed by passing the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical harness and connector through the shift control indicator to release the Shift Knob. Apply fluid gm p/n 88861426 (Canadian P/N 88861442) to the shift lever tip followed by controlled insertion of the Shift Knob onto this lever while properly routing the electrical harness. Tighten the knob screw with 4 nm force while following a 35 lb in torque value. Press the Shift Knob trim ring upward until it produces a visible audible clicking sound to keep it locked to the Shift Knob. Use the park setting on the shift lever followed by turning the key to off then reattaching the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector. It is essential to verify that the shift control works adequately in all shifting positions; afterwards replace the floor console left extension panel and release the parking brake.
