    Q:
How to replace the Shift Knob on Chevrolet Traverse? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for replacing the Shift Knob on the traverse involves engaging the parking brake while removing the floor console left extension panel. Before disconnecting the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector it is crucial to note the wire harness position for accurate reinstallation. Pull out the tap up/tap down switch electrical wire harness from its retainments on the shift control device as well as the base. Lower the transmission shift control lever all the way to its rear position when the key is in the run mode (without engine start) before continuing. Downward pressure should be applied to the Shift Knob trim ring in order to disconnect it from the Shift Knob and reveal the Shift Knob retaining screw. Open the shift control knob screw and guide the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical harness and connector through the shift control indicator during shift control knob removal. The procedure for installation requires guiding the electrical fixture through the shift control indicator twice before attaching the shift control knob to the shift control lever. Drive in and secure the control knob screw with a torque of 4 nm (35 lb in). Pulling the shift control knob trim ring will produce an audible click that indicates proper attachment. After placing the shift control lever in park position along with turning the key off the technician should reinstall the tap up/tap down switch electrical wire harness to its retaining features. Test the shift control through all gear ranges after connecting the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector. The maintenance ends with installing left extension panel on the floor console then releasing the parking brake.

    Q:
How to Change the Shift Knob on a Chevrolet Traverse? Posted by Customer
    A:
Applying the parking brake and removing the floor console left extension panel starts the process of Shift Knob replacement on traverse models. Detach the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector while keeping record of wire harness placement along the route. When removing the shift control handle and base separate the tap up/tap down switch electrical wire harness. Operate the vehicle key to the run phase (avoid starting the engine) then move the transmission shift control lever in the rear direction. Place downward pressure on the Shift Knob trim ring to unattach it from the Shift Knob until the Shift Knob retaining screw becomes visible. Following the removal of the shift control knob screw and shift control knob from the shift control lever, guide the electrical harness through the shift control indicator area. Guide the electrical harness while putting the shift control knob back onto the shift control lever followed by screwing the control knob to 4 nm (35 lb in). Position the shift control knob trim ring to its click position before installing the tap up/tap down electrical wire harness onto the shift control handle and base. First step to set the shift control lever at park position then turn off the key while connecting the transmission tap up/tap down switch electrical connector. The floor console left extension panel will reinstall with the parking brake release only after verifying shift control function works properly through all gear positions.
