    Q:
How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check the brake fluid level first before starting work on the rear brake pads. You do not need to drain fluid when the reservoir is halfway between the top and bottom marks. Lift the car using support stands and detach the wheel assembly by first removing the tire. A wheel lug nut should be manually tightened onto a wheel stud to lock the rotor onto the hub. Place a large c-clamp between the brake caliper body and position the other ends against its backside. Hold the caliper piston stationary with an inboard Brake Pad or wood block before tightening the clamp until the piston travels past the brake rotor. Support the brake caliper with mechanic's wire to avoid damaging the hydraulic flexible brake hose after you unfasten the c-clamp and brake caliper guide pin bolts. Make sure to check the Brake Pad retainers while you take off the brake caliper and pads from their locations. Before installing the caliper make sure its slide boots are free from damage and replace when needed. Push the caliper piston fully into its bores by tightening a large c-clamp onto an old Brake Pad or wood block and take away the clamp and pad afterward. Place the new brake pads into position and lock them in with the Brake Pad retainers while keeping the wear sensor on the trailing area during brake rotor spin direction. Place the brake caliper over its bracket and fasten the guide pin bolts while twisting them to 31 nm under accurate torque wrench settings. Install the tire and wheel unit on the vehicle before lowering it. Once the engine is off apply the brake pedal gently up to its two-thirds position then release it slowly. Press the brake pedal several times while waiting 15 seconds each time to achieve a firm brake pedal state which places brake caliper pistons into proper position. Complete the brake master cylinder reservoir with proper fluid and apply light pressure on the pads through several rotations of the wheels.
