    Q:
How to replace the rear bumper fascia on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for replacing rear Bumper fascia requires lifting the vehicle and applying support beneath it. First detach the push-in retainers that link the fascia to the impact bar after which you should uninstall the rear wheels along with the right and left rear wheelhouse liners. First detach the bolts between fascia and quarter panel which attach both pieces to the rear compartment brace and then disconnect the nuts that fasten the quarter panel to the fascia. First detach the side marker light sockets while performing connector removal on the rear harness and pulling off the rear fascia harness from the right rear side frame rail. The license frame can be detached after you lower the vehicle body while depressing the locking tabs. To prevent scratching the plastic screws of the energy absorber use a specific square-headed tool to remove the back up lamp/license bracket (Domestic) or rear license bracket (Export). Begin the process by taking off the outer taillamps along with the right inner taillamp to reach inside before unclasping the fascia harness from the impact bar right side. Securely detach the fascia from its attachment points to the quarter panel through the taillamp opening and disconnect the antenna ground nut. The antenna ground stud and shield must also be removed along with the braided wire from the antenna ground stud. Next open the rear lift window on the coupe model or trunk lid then remove screws which connect the fascia to its upper flange before taking out the fascia. All essential parts need to be transferred ahead of the installation process. Locate the right and left retainer brackets to the fascia before positioning it on the vehicle while inserting the quarter panel holes with studs from the fascia retainer brackets. Begin by inserting the fascia upper flange screws at the middle before working outwards to a torque of 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). The taillamp openings provide access for starting the screws through fascia retainer brackets into quarter panel reinforcement until the fascia rests level with the quarter panel surface. Fasten the antenna ground stud before tightening it to 5 n.m (44 lb in). Connect the antenna braided wire together with the shield (Convertible), antenna ground and nut to the ground stud while tightening the nut until it reaches 6 n.m (53 lb in). Attach the fascia retainer bracket studs with nuts before tightening them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Next follow the process of closing the rear lift window panel (Coupe) or trunk lid. Raise and support the vehicle again and use bolts to attach the lower fascia edge to the rear compartment brace. Fully tighten these bolts to 5 n.m (44 lb in). Secure the side marker sockets while running the rear fascia harness and connecting the harness connector before affixing it to the right side rail. Proceed with attaching the push-in retainers to join the fascia with the impact bar after installing the wheelhouse liner panels and tires together with the wheels. First lower the vehicle then install sockets to the taillamps and finally install the taillamps. Toothheaded screws of the precise size should be used to attach the absorber components according to specifications where rear license plate opening energy absorber screws need 1 n.m torque and back up lamp/license bracket (Domestic) or rear license bracket (Export) screws require 2 n.m torque. The last installation step is to mount the rear license and its frame.
