    Q:
How to replace the Body Control Module (BCM) on Buick LaCrosse? Posted by Customer
    A:
Take proper steps to fight electrostatic discharge (ESD) before you start replacing the Body Control Module (BCM). Take out the left instrument panel outer trim first and use a press to release the cam lock. Disconnect the upper electrical connector from the BCM. First disconnect the knee bolster before taking out the left I/P insulator. Following this press the cam lock to take off both lower BCM electrical connectors. Take the BCM bracket screws out and remove the BCM and bracket from their I/P position to split them apart. Before mounting, place the BCM on the BCM bracket then install the unit into its original position by tightening its screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in). Secure the lower BCM electrical connectors using the cam lock before putting back the knee bolster and left I/P insulator. Connect the BCM's upper electric socket and fix it with the cam lock before installing the left I/P panel. Complete the new BCM installation process according to necessary specifications.

    A:
Before replacing the Body Control Module (BCM) ensure to protect it from electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage by touching a metal surface to ground yourself then carefully handling the exposed terminals. First step is to take off the left instrument panel outer trim cover then push to release the cam lock and pull off the top BCM electrical connection. Take off the insulator from the left side of the instrument panel and also remove the knee bolster. Next push the latch to free the lower BCM electrical connections. Unbolt the BCM bracket and ease it out with the BCM from the instrument panel. Pull apart the BCM mounting areas from the matching plate. Place the BCM over the BCM bracket before putting it back into the front console. Tighten the BCM screws to 18 lb inch while linking the lower BCM electrical connections with secure locks. Place the knee bolster and left I/P insulator back in their locations and attach their electrical upper connector to the BCM while locking the cam device. Put back the left IP outer trim before following the required steps for new BCM programming.
