    Q:
How to replace the inner axle shaft or housing of the front drive axle on Chevrolet Aveo? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the inner shaft or housing of the front drive axle, the starting step is to raise and properly support the vehicle. Crawl under the car and remove the wheels and the engine under covers, then dismantle the Axle Shaft caulking nut, discarding it afterwards. Subsequently, take off the lower Ball Joint nut and the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle using the km-507-c (KM-507-C) to prevent damage to the Ball Joint and seal. Take off Tie Rod nut and choose the km-507-c (KM-507-C) one more for removing the Tie Rod end. Move to remove the connection nut and bolt of the damping block as well as remove the rear mounting bracket bolts and bracket. This will involve pushing the drive Axle Shaft from the wheel and taking the drive axle off the transaxle using the dt 47539 (DT 47539). Place a drain pan beneath the transaxle to capture any leaking fluid and close off the transaxle drive hole upon removal. During installation, clean the hub seal & transaxle seal without breaking them and drop the drive axle into the transaxle and the Wheel Hub onto the Axle Shaft. Reinstall the rear mounting bracket bolts and bracket with a torque of 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.), and then the damping block connection nut and bolt with 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). Mount the Steering Knuckle onto the lower Ball Joint, insert the Tie Rod into the knuckle/strut, and tighten up the Tie Rod nut to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs). Also install the lower Ball Joint nut and tighten it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Loose up a new Axle Shaft caulk nut and fix the wheels then loose up nuts. Lower the vehicle to the ground and tigten the wheel nuts to 120 nm (88 ft. Lbs) and Axle Shaft caulk nut to 300 nm (221ft. Lbs). Finally, punch the caulking nut with a purse, then with a hammer until it locks on the Axle Shaft hub. Replace and engine under covers, then add the transaxle fluid up to an appropriate level.
