Brake Shoes

The replacement process begins with drum removal followed by disconnection of the shoe return spring from the front shoe then continuation with shoe hold-down spring and anchor spring removal. First disconnect the shoe pin as well as the shoe hold-down spring cups (11, 13) before removing the front shoe and the anchor spring. Take out the rear shoe hold-down spring followed by the shoe hold-down spring cups (7, 9) and the shoe pin accompanied by the adjuster spring and the park brake lever strut with the shoe return spring and finally the rear shoe . Separate the park brake cable from the lever then remove the two c-shaped park brake lever washers (1, 5), the park brake lever return ring, the park brake lever as well as the rear Brake Shoe adjuster actuator. The inspection must examine drum brake components for signs of wear and rust along with damage and determine when replacement is needed for the Brake Drum. All metal contact points require the application of white lithium gm p/n 1050109 grease before equipment installation. Begin your installation steps with the placement of the rear Brake Shoe adjuster actuator followed by the park brake lever later accompanied by the park brake lever return ring and the two c-shaped park brake lever washers (1, 5). Install the park brake lever cable first before adding the rear shoe and park brake lever strut with its attached shoe return spring and adjuster spring and shoe pin and shoe hold-down spring cups numbered (7, 9) and the rear shoe hold-down spring. The front shoe requires installation after the rear shoe and the subsequent components including anchor spring , shoe pin , shoe hold-down spring cups (11, 13) before adding the shoe hold-down spring . The installation process ends with a connection of park brake lever strut along with shoe return spring to the front shoe before fitting the drum.

Install the rear shoe, park brake lever strut with the shoe return spring, adjuster spring, shoe pin, shoe hold-down spring cups (7, 9), and rear shoe hold-down spring.
