    Q:
How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin intermediate Steering Shaft replacement by securing the Steering Wheel in a straight-ahead position through the use of a steering column anti-rotation pin or steering column lock or strap which protects the sir system. After securing the steering column with a locking mechanism you must verify a locked tilt and telescope lever while maintaining the column in its highest position and maximum rearward extent. Raise and support the vehicle. Prior to disassembly paint should be applied to both the intermediate Steering Shaft and steering gear pinion shaft. First clear threads from the steering gear pinion bolt then remove the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear pinion shaft. The 4 tabs on the intermediate shaft seal need to be disconnected following which you must apply paint marks to both the steering column shaft and intermediate Steering Shaft. The upper intermediate shaft bolt requires removal while cleaning its threads before disconnecting the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering column shaft. Extract the intermediate shaft seal from the dashboard panel before you can remove the combined intermediate Steering Shaft assembly. When you replace the intermediate Steering Shaft make sure to transfer match marks from the old shaft to the new one. Position the intermediate Steering Shaft and seal assembly onto the driver's floor before you slot the shaft into the dash panel opening. Connect the intermediate shaft seal to the dash panel while pushing it to activate the four tab engagement points. Align the match marks then join the intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering column shaft. The upper intermediate Steering Shaft bolt receives thread locking adhesive before installation at 36 nm (26.5 lb ft) torque. First align the match marks and join the intermediate Steering Shaft with the steering gear pinion shaft. Then use thread locking adhesive on the steering gear pinion bolt before installation at 50 nm (37 lb ft). Lower your vehicle after ensuring the intermediate shaft seal's four tabs insert properly into the dash panel.
