• Q: How to replace the Hood Cable on 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?

  A: To replace the hood primary latch cable, remove the Hood Latch cover. Pull the end of the housing for the Hood Cable forward at the Hood Latch end to loosen the cable housing grommet from the Hood Latch housing then remove the end of the Hood Cable from the Hood Latch. Pull the Hood Cable off from the engine wire harness and take the screw that holds the handle to Hood Cable. Detach it from the cable by pushing forward the handle, remove the floor carpet retainer and pull the floor carpet away to gain access to the cable. Remove the Hood Cable by tugging it out from the inside of the passenger compartment. To install stick the Hood Cable through the opening in dash panel, pull the cable from engine compartment to seat the grommet. Additionally, reinstall the floor carpet and its retainers, after that insert the tabs of the hood release cable handle into the hinge pillar and pull the cable rearward. Put the end of the cable with a handle for the hood and set the screws to hold the handle, tightening them at 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Route the Hood Cable to the Hood Latch, clip to wire harness, and install the end of cable into the slot in the Hood Latch, pushing it into place. Finally, install the Hood Latch cover again.
