2000 Chevrolet Tahoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Install the Rear Crankshaft Seal on 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe?
A: When you install the Crankshaft rear oil seal begin by applying clean engine oil to the seal's outside diameter (OD). Make sure the oil doesn't touch the seal surface area. The installation requires clean engine oil to lubricate the rear cover oil seal bore but this process needs to exclude contact with the Crankshaft surface. Place the reusable Crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J 41479) cone and bolts at the Crankshaft's rear end while maintaining proper torque until all bolts start to tighten but avoid excessive force. Position the rear oil seal onto the tapered cone after installation and carefully push the seal toward the rear cover bore. Close the tapered cone with the prepared j 41479 threaded rod before placing the oil seal on top of the tool then turn the tool handle clockwise to drive the seal all the way into the rear cover bore. Finally, remove the tool.
