2000 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left exhaust manifold on 2000 GMC Safari?
A: Start the left Exhaust Manifold replacement by removing the engine cover then disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The maintenance process starts by first elevating the vehicle and extracting the left front tire before taking off the left fender wheelhouse extension. The replacement process starts by taking out the Catalytic Converter assembly followed by removing both the egr valve inlet pipe from the Exhaust Manifold and all Spark Plug Wires from their spark plugs alongside their respective support bolts and support system. Through the wheelhouse access holes install a torque wrench to loosen the four front bolts of the Exhaust Manifold while removing the bolts from the engine cover opening and taking out the Exhaust Manifold and gaskets and Spark Plug wire shields from underneath the vehicle, cleaning all gasket faces. Install new gaskets and Spark Plug wire shields together with their bolts onto the Exhaust Manifold while letting the bolts stay locked by gasket tabs. Tighten the two rear manifold bolts through the engine cover opening while doing the same with the front four bolts by using the wheelhouse access. Reattach wires to their corresponding spark plugs and mount the Spark Plug wire support with bolts which should be secured at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). The egr valve inlet pipe should be attached to the Exhaust Manifold while torqueing the nut to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) followed by connecting the Catalytic Converter assembly. After lowering the vehicle you should install the fender wheelhouse extension along with the left front tire, reconnect the ect sensor electrical connector and complete installation by putting on the engine cover.
