    Q:
How to replace the left exhaust manifold on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for left Exhaust Manifold replacement includes removing the engine cover followed by disconnecting the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The procedure starts with raising the vehicle while removing the left front tire and then continuing with the removal of the left fender wheelhouse extension. The removal procedure begins with taking out the Catalytic Converter assembly along with the egr valve inlet pipe from the Exhaust Manifold. Begin by removing the Spark Plug Wires from their spark plugs before gradually uninstalling both the Spark Plug wire support and wires with its bolts. Proceed with removing the front 4 Exhaust Manifold bolts through the wheelhouse while also using the engine cover opening to take out the 2 rear Exhaust Manifold bolts. Underneath the vehicle remove the Exhaust Manifold combined with gaskets and Spark Plug wire shields while cleaning the entire gasket surface areas. The installation requires sub-assembling new gaskets along with Spark Plug wire shields and bolts to the Exhaust Manifold while making sure Exhaust Manifold bolts remain fixed using gasket tabs. You should install the Exhaust Manifold by fastening the 2 rear bolts into the engine cover opening and the front 4 bolts into the wheelhouse. Seal each Spark Plug wire to its appropriate Spark Plug before installing the Spark Plug wire support and its connecting bolts at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). The installation process begins with piping the egr valve inlet toward the Exhaust Manifold followed by tightening its nut to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Then install the Catalytic Converter assembly and fender wheelhouse extension followed by the left front tire. The procedure requires users to lower the vehicle before they reconnect the ect sensor electrical connector followed by installing the engine cover.
