2001 GMC Savana 2500 Leaf Spring Shackle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Leaf Spring Shackle on 2001 GMC Savana 2500?
A: A vehicle hoist should raise the vehicle for safe access followed by placement of a suitable jack stand beneath the rear axle to let go of the rear spring tension. The replacement process begins by removing both the tire along with wheel. After that, remove the upper retaining bolt and the lower retaining bolt from the shackle before removing the shackle itself from the vehicle. Install the new shackle to the vehicle before fastening it with fresh nuts and bolts on both the lower and upper retaining points of the shackle. Install the tire and wheel on the vehicle then lower the vehicle down while simultaneously torquing both upper and lower shackle retaining bolts to 90 nm (67 ft. Lbs.).
