  • Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?
A: It can be replaced by raising and supporting the vehicle. Remove the CKP sensor electrical connector and extract the fuel line bracket and bolt. Before removing the CKP sensor, apply penetrating oil around and let it soak. Take off the bolt of the CKP sensor, twist it back-and-forth before removing it. Check the CKP sensor to see if it is worn. normal wear will be visible on the wear strips but there should not be any wear on the sensing element. In the instance that there is too much abnormal wear on the sensing element , change the sensor. In case of using the old sensor verify its O-rings for any damage and replace it if necessary and lubricate the O-rings with clean engine oil. Make sure that the CKP sensor is properly seated toward the crankshaft reluctor ring; it should be noted that the upper flange does not muffle against the engine block. Install the CKP sensor, making sure that the bolt hole is clean and if using the old sensor, apply thread adhesive GM P/N U.S. 12345593, GM P/N Canada 10953488, or similar to the bolt threads beforeinstalling the CKP sensor bolt, tighten it to 12 N.m (106 lb in). Connect the CKP sensor's electrical connector, reinstall the fuel line bracket and bolt, lower the vehicle, and complete the CKP system variation learn procedure.
