• Q: How to replace the muffler on 2002 GMC Envoy?

  A: The Muffler can be replaced after lifting the vehicle. If there is any damage on the exhaust Muffler or front pipe, change the entire exhaust Muffler assembly. Pull the nuts off that secure the Muffler to the catalytic converter pipe and remove the Muffler/resonator from the insulators that keep it in place, and gently remove the Muffler from the vehicle. If there is damage at the rear of the exhaust Muffler, support the exhaust system, cut the Exhaust Pipe at the damaged points , take out the damaged Exhaust Pipe and resonator. To install it, when replacing the entire Muffler pipe assembly, proceed to carefully set the Muffler in place, and tighten the exhaust hangars to the insulators. Mount the Muffler on the catalytic converter pipe and bolt it down using nuts and tighten to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). In case of installation of the exhaust aft of the Muffler, attach the exhaust to the insulators accordingly, attach the Exhaust Pipe to the Muffler and tighten the Exhaust Pipe clamp nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.), removing the exhaust support. Lastly, check the exhaust system for leaks and underbody contact after lifting the vehicle.
