2002 GMC Safari Dipstick Tube Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Dipstick Tube and oil level indicator on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: Both engine cover and oil level indicator need removal before starting to replace the tube and indicator. Detach the bolt which keeps the oil level indicator tube fastened to transmission fluid fill tube and split the upper tube section from the lower tube section. Discard all remains of old sealer from both tubes before removing the oil level indicator tube bolt. A twisting action will help you remove the oil level indicator tube from the engine and you should clean both the indicator tube and engine block surfaces from their old sealer. You should install the oil level indicator tube by first connecting the lower half to the engine followed by application of sealer (GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent) to the section where the upper tube joins before uniting the tubes. Fasten the engine oil level indicator tube to the transmission fluid fill tube using the bolt before tightening it to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.). Install the oil level indicator and engine cover afterward.
