- Q: How to replace the front coil springs on 2002 GMC Savana 3500?A: The coil spring remover (J23028-01) should be used to cradle the lower Control Arm at the Control Arm bushings after the vehicle rests at a hoist height while the control arms dangle freely with proper safety stands in place. After wheel and tire removal you should begin by taking out the stabilizer shaft link pins from the lower Control Arm and the shock absorber. You should first elevate the jack to reduce tension on the lower Control Arm pivot bolts then unfasten the bolts and nuts. Lower the jack at a slow pace until you can remove both the coil spring and the insulator. To install the coil spring position the taper end at its highest point and place the gripper notch at the bottom while keeping the spring insulator on top. Install the lower Control Arm pivot bolts into their proper direction then tighten them at z height as you perform the installation with the help of a pry bar while using the coil spring remover (J23028-01) to support the Control Arm and raise the jack. Reinstall the shock absorber after spinning off the coil spring remover (J23028-01) and installing the new lower Control Arm pivot bolts with nuts. Install the link pin of the stabilizer shaft then tighten the retaining nut of the assembly to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) followed by installation of the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle and remove safety stands and finish by tightening each lower Control Arm pivot bolt to 155 nm (115 ft. Lbs.).
