2003 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: Next step to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder requires you to remove the driver side instrument panel insulator and to disarm the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector. Next, remove the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod from clutch pedal pin and remove the clutch fluid reservoir retaining bolt, removing the reservoir itself from fender reinforcement. One does not need to drain the coolant or disconnect the coolant lines from the surge tank; however, unlatch the coolant surge tank mounting bolts and move the tank aside making sure that you have placed a rubber cap over the uncapped hose fitting in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose, turn the Clutch Master Cylinder a 1/8 turn clockwise, and remove it off the cowl. Afterwards, pull the clutch pedal position switch out of the Clutch Master Cylinder. For installation, fix the clutch pedal position switch to the new Clutch Master Cylinder where the clutch fluid reservoir connection would be on 2:00 position as you insert the master cylinder into the cowl. Line up the keys of the Clutch Master Cylinder housing with the corresponding tabs of the clutch pedal bracket and rotate cylinder counterclockwise 1/8 turn until it is fully seated, with the reservoir hose connection at the 12:00 position. Irrespective of which body panel is chosen, the clutch hydraulic hose should be connected, the coolant surge tank should be set up, and connected to the fender reinforcement will be tightening the reservoir bolt at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Mount the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal pin and push it onto the pin for locking. Reconnect the cl docker pedal position switch electrical connector, replace the driver side instrument panel insulator, and bleed the cl friction system.
