• Q: How to replace the intake manifold on 2003 Chevrolet SSR?

  A: To replace the Intake Manifold, first, you need to remove the Throttle Body and fuel injectors. Disconnect the electrical connectors for manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and Knock Sensor and Knock Sensor harness connector from the Intake Manifold and place the electrical harness to the side. If it's installed, you should detach the vacuum brake booster hose from the back of the Intake Manifold, then the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose. Next to remove MAP Sensor (714) from the Intake Manifold. In the case of the evaporative emission of (EVAP- Purge Solenoid Vent Tube), pull off the evap tube end from the solenoid, squeeze the evap pipe quick connect fitting retainer together, and pull off the evap tube end from the vapor pipe. Remove the evap purge solenoid bolt (710), solenoid (708), and isolator (709) from Intake Manifold after that remove the Intake Manifold bolts and Intake Manifold itself. Remove and get rid of the old Intake Manifold gaskets and clean the gasket surfaces of the egr pipe and Exhaust Manifold if fitted. For installation, install new Intake Manifold gaskets on the manifold, then sit the manifold in place. Apply a 5mm (0.20 inch) band of threadlock gm pn 12345382 (Canada PN 10953489) to the threads of the Intake Manifold bolts. Crank the Intake Manifold bolts in sequence to 5 nm (44 inch lbs) at the first pass and 10nm (89 inch lbs) at the final pass. Connect the evap purge solenoid (708), isolator (709), and bolt (710) the Intake Manifold and tighten the solenoid bolt to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Connect the evap purge solenoid vent tube to the solenoid and vapor pipe. Label away the MAP Sensor seal with clean engine oil before attaching the MAP Sensor to the exceed (714) on the Intake Manifold. Replace the pcv hose and if so equipped, the vacuum brake booster hose to the back of the Intake Manifold. Route the electrical harness, connect the Knock Sensor harness electrical connector to Intake Manifold, reconnect the MAP Sensor and Knock Sensor electrical connectors. Last, put on the fuel injectors and Throttle Body.
