2004 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine flywheel on 2004 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The first step to replace the engine Flywheel involves removing the transaxle followed by disconnecting eight bolts that connect the Flywheel to the Crankshaft flange before discarding these bolts. The next step requires removing the Flywheel to check the Crankshaft mating surfaces for burrs before performing cleaning and engine Flywheel examination. Use the torque angle meter (J 36660-A) to supplement the 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) bolt tightening torque by adding an additional 50 degrees when installing new Flywheel bolts. The dial indicator set (J 8001) needs installation onto the engine block to measure runout at each of the attaching bosses while using the single Crankshaft end-play direction; maximum tolerable Flywheel runout stands at 0.381 mm (0.015 inch). The Flywheel requires replacement if it cannot be adjusted into specification by hitting it with a mallet on its elevated side. Finally, reinstall the transaxle.
