2004 Chevrolet Aveo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Safely on 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?
A: Start your heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 1 replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable while leaving both the ho2s pigtail and the Oxygen Sensor (O2S) pigtail untouched to keep sensor operation intact. Carefully handle the Oxygen Sensor by maintaining the in-line electrical connector and louvered end clear of all contaminants and dirt and grease. Any cleaning agents should remain entirely prohibited. The Oxygen Sensor requires replacement when the pigtail wiring and connector and any terminal shows signs of damage. Keep sensors' connectors free from contact cleaner applications while making sure that sensor cables and piping remain undamaged and not exposed. Pulling off the Oxygen Sensor ground wire must be avoided since it leads to poor engine operation and bending or kinking the lead wires is prohibited. The peripheral seal on vehicle harness connectors needs to be complete to stop water entry and packard's crimp and splice seals terminal repair kit should be used as needed rather than soldering methods. Engine temperature above 48°c (120°F) will make it easier to detach the front heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S1) connector and remove the sensor from the Exhaust Manifold. After you apply anti-seize compound to the threads (if needed) use a torque wrench to install the ho2s1 to the Exhaust Manifold while reaching 42 n.m (31 lb ft) torque. To complete the repair sequence connect the ho2s1 connector followed by the reconnection of the negative Battery Cable.
