How to replace the intermediate exhaust pipe on 2004 Chevrolet Malibu?

The first step to replace the intermediate pipe involves lifting the vehicle. Use the service part to guide your cut of the intermediate pipe which should be located in front of the Muffler. Detach the intermediate pipe bolts from the Catalytic Converter downpipe followed by removing the intermediate pipe from the hangers before removing it entirely from the vehicle. Clean the flange surface of the Catalytic Converter downpipe and also remove its gasket. Reposition the new Catalytic Converter downpipe gasket first and then install the intermediate pipe to the hangers using dielectric silicone grease gm p/n 12345579 (Canadian P/N 1974984) for easier installation. Fasten the intermediate pipe bolts to the Catalytic Converter then torque them to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Start by clamping the Muffler together with the intermediate pipe before torquing the exhaust system clamp and tightening its nuts to 50 nm (37 ft-lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
