How to Replace a Tail Light on an Extended Sedan on 2004 Chevrolet Malibu?

Replacement of tail lamp and back up or sidemarker or stop or turn signal bulbs on extended sedans begins with opening the liftgate followed by unscrewing the tail lamp screws. First push the tail lamp backward until it releases from the quarter panel then undo the electrical connector from the tail lamp wiring harness. First turn all tail lamp and back up and stop lamp sockets counterclockwise to remove them and finally extract their bulbs. To set up the new bulbs place each one into the sockets for the tail lamp and stop lamp and back up lamp before turning the sockets all the way to the right side. Connect the electrical connector to the tail lamp wiring harness before properly seating the tail lamp onto the quarter panel where the two locating pins should align correctly. Screw and secure the tail lamp with 2 n.m (18 lb in) torque before closing the liftgate.
