2004 Chevrolet Tracker Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace a catalytic converter on 2004 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Vehicle support and elevation is required before starting the Catalytic Converter replacement work. The twc bolts need to be removed from the front pipe assembly before separating the front pipe from its connection with the Catalytic Converter assembly. Remove the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S2) electrical connector first before you take out the Catalytic Converter assembly twc nuts to separate it from the resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly . The hanger supporting the Catalytic Converter assembly needs to be removed before extraction of the assembly from the vehicle. Before installing the new Catalytic Converter assembly to the vehicle you must clean both surfaces and support the assembly on a hanger. Use twc nuts to mount the Catalytic Converter assembly onto the resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly while leaving the nuts slightly loose. Reinstall the electrical connector to the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S2) and use a new seal to connect the front pipe to the Catalytic Converter assembly while securing it with twc bolts but keeping them loose at this time. Before you tighten fasteners check that all system parts are properly aligned to stop noise and vibrations. Locate the twc bolts on the front pipe to Catalytic Converter assembly and the twc nuts on the Catalytic Converter to resonator/muffler/tail pipe assembly. Torque these bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and these nuts to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle.
