The technician needs to protect the flooding surfaces between the transfer cases and shafts when they peel off the seal because damaged surfaces can cause leaks or force replacements. The removal of the Transfer Case input shaft seal follows the previous step. Install the new seal with its facing side containing part numbers directed toward the technician while maintaining seal uniformity with the Transfer Case surface level. Put the Transfer Case input seal onto the input shaft then install it with the aid of the j 42738 seal installer (J 42738). Reattach the Transfer Case assembly and check Transfer Case fluid level before lowering the vehicle after completion of installation.
