2005 Buick LaCrosse Shift Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: One must begin by removing the air cleaner intake duct before unclipping the cable from its harness locations and disengaging the cable retainer. The next step requires pressing the cable tabs while disconnecting it from both the Shift Cable lever and cable bracket. When a floor console exists you must remove it before pulling back carpeting to reach the cable. Separate the cable retainer from the console shift control before removing the cable from the console shift control together with its bracket. The left knee bolster must be removed first followed by extracting the cable from the shift control lever when a steering column shift control exists. A mechanics wire piece should be clamped to the cable end to pass it through the cowl hole. The cable must pass through the cowl hole before eliminating the mechanics wire for installation. Reinstall the left knee bolster after you connect the cable to the shift control lever if such connection is needed. The installation of floor console shift control begins with attaching the cable first to console shift control bracket and then to the control before securing the cable retainer followed by repositioning carpet and final front floor console reinstallation. After cable routing you should connect it to the cable bracket and lever and finally secure the retainer. Put the neutral position on the transaxle and shift control then join both cable sections at their ends by inserting the metal fittings of the Shift Cable into the transaxle cable until they lock together. Apply a single push to the adjuster clip for mobilizing the adjuster housing until you achieve alignment between end fittings before pressing the clip down to secure the cable in its service position. Complete system adjustment requires pulling the conduit until the horseshoe clip with tab becomes completely flush. End the procedure by connecting the cable to the wiring harness clip then adjust the cable while reinstalling the air cleaner intake duct.
