2005 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: Begin by raising your vehicle then use a drain pan underneath the transaxle Oil Pan before starting. First drain out fluid by loosening all transaxle Oil Pan bolts starting from the front then proceeding to the sides before approaching the rear bolts. Keep the surfaces between the Oil Pan and transmission case free from damage which would cause leakage of oil. A rubber mallet or screwdriver should be used to carefully separate the Oil Pan which enables the fluid to drain. Proceed by taking off the Oil Pan with its attached gasket after removing the remaining transaxle bolts. Check the Oil Pan and filter for contaminants such as metal particles and clutch facing material along with rubber particle substances, engine coolant alongside identifying and repairing the cause of contamination. Bend or distorted Oil Pan flanges require a replacement due to inability to rectify that condition. It is necessary to check Oil Pan bolt washers for any reversed position before reinstalling the pan. Replace all inverted washers. After drying the case and Oil Pan fanges from all oil contaminants you must wipe solvent over both surfaces before air drying them. The installation of the Oil Pan gasket must be followed by fitting the Oil Pan into position after which the Oil Pan bolts should be torqued to 14 nm (10 ft. Lbs.). Perform the following steps: first lower the vehicle, fill the transaxle with dexron(r) iii, place the gear selector in park before starting the engine to run at a slow idle without speeding. Check the fluid level while looking for any fluid leakage from the system.
