2005 Chevrolet Blazer Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on 2005 Chevrolet Blazer?
A: Initial steps to replace the lower intermediate Steering Shaft include positioning the front wheels straight then locking the Steering Column at lock position to stop both restraints coil assembly damage and Steering Column misalignment. Secure your Steering Column by using the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640). The air cleaner assembly must be removed at this point while keeping track of both lower intermediate shaft position relationships with upper intermediate shaft and steering gear input shaft for accurate rebuilding. Take out the intermediate shaft shield along with the retaining bolt that secures the lower intermediate shaft coupling to the steering gear input shaft. Move the lower intermediate shaft backward to disconnect it from the steering gear input shaft and forward to disconnect it from the upper intermediate shaft. The installation process starts by moving the lower intermediate shaft backward to join it with the upper intermediate shaft followed by extending it to connect with the steering gear input shaft. Fasten the lower intermediate shaft retaining bolt to the steering gear input shaft while torqueing it to 35 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). Finish the installation by replacing the lower intermediate shaft shield together with the air cleaner assembly while removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
