2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Brake Shoe Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake shoes on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Start by elevating the vehicle before you proceed to eliminate the tire-wheel assembly to remove the Brake Drum. The adjuster spring should undergo gentle handling to stay free from any form of damage. Unfasten the adjuster spring by pulling up its hook end from the tab on the adjuster actuator lever and pulling the spring loose from the Brake Shoe web hole. Cut the adjuster actuator lever free from its pivot point. The j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover should be used to open the brake shoes at the top and extract the adjuster assembly from the brake shoes. Gently use the j 38400 hook end to remove the universal spring from the shoe web hole after positioning the tool under it for the secondary Brake Shoe removal. First free up the park brake cable from the park brake lever attached to the secondary Brake Shoe followed by the same procedure on the primary Brake Shoe. You must coat the Brake Shoe contact areas of the Brake Backing Plate with high-temperature silicone brake lubricant in a thin and light application. Through the use of tool j 38400 install the primary Brake Shoe into position until the universal spring captures the web hole of the Brake Shoe. You should install the park brake cable onto the park brake lever of the secondary Brake Shoe before reinstalling the secondary Brake Shoe in a similar fashion. Spread the brake shoes at the top with the j 38400 while installing the adjuster assembly. Adjustment of the adjuster actuator lever must be performed after the pivot reattachment with full engagement of the assembly. When installing the adjuster spring users should avoid forcing it too far since it needs to fully engage the tab on the actuator lever. The procedure ends with Brake Drum installation followed by tire-wheel assembly reinstallation and lower vehicle execution.
