2005 Chevrolet Classic Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle in the rear suspension on 2005 Chevrolet Classic?
A: Start with vehicle lifting before vehicle support and complete the replacement of the rear Steering Knuckle by removing tires while wheels stay in place. Draw a marking on the strut along with the knuckle before removing the stabilizer shaft link. Start by taking out the knuckle nut and bolt while keeping the washers in place to remove the rear lateral links. Start by disconnecting the abs electrical connector and removing the rear Wheel Hub and backing plate. To extract the knuckle the technician must first unstow the Trailing Arm bolt from the knuckle and remove both the Trailing Arm and knuckle before taking off the rear strut nuts and rear strut to knuckle bolts. Place the knuckle into its correct position and install rear strut to knuckle bolts along with nuts before tightening the hand-tightened nuts. Place lateral links on the knuckle then apply nut torque to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.) make sure lateral links have proper tension against the knuckle. Secure the Trailing Arm to the knuckle followed by installing the Trailing Arm bolt and secure it at 69 nm torque (51 ft. Lbs.). Replace the backing plate with the rear Wheel Hub and electrical abs connector and secure the drum by locking the strut to knuckle nuts at 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). You should finish your work by installing the stabilizer shaft link followed by wheel and tire installation and finally lowering the vehicle.
