2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Fuel Rail Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Releasing fuel system pressure should become the first step before attempting to replace the Fuel Rail assembly. The first step requires removing the air cleaner outlet resonator followed by disconnecting the fuel supply pipe using a back up wrench as well as disconnecting the Fuel Injector harness connectors. The procedure begins with removing the Fuel Rail attaching studs and following by gently pulling the Fuel Rail upwards while backing it out until fuel injectors detach from cylinder head ports. After the Fuel Rail faces downward the whole assembly can be removed. Precaution is necessary to protect the electrical terminals and spray tips of fuel injectors throughout this operation. Next, remove the fuel injectors. When installing fuel injectors position them downward before slidng them into the cylinder head ports. Apply forward rotation to the Fuel Rail while gently pressing the injectors into their correct position. New lower o-rings need installation before Fuel Injector reuse and the injector tip o-rings should receive lubrication before their installation. Fitting the Fuel Rail attaching studs requires a torque of 10 n.m at 89 lb in while the Fuel Injector harness connectors need to be properly connected with secure attachment. The fuel supply pipe reinstall involves tightening it to 10 n.m (89 lb in) through a back up wrench on the Fuel Rail and as the final step replace the air cleaner outlet resonator. Before completing the installation process, mount the negative Battery Cable and perform the leak test by first keeping the ignition on with the engine off for two seconds followed by ten seconds of engine rest before returning to the ignition on state to check for any fuel leakage.
