2005 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the cooling fan and fan shroud on 2005 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Replacing cooling fan and shroud requires beginning with front fascia removal and coolant drain. You must disconnect the electric connections that operate the fan motors while unclipping the wire harness attached to the fan assembly. To proceed with the condenser Radiator fan module (CRFM) replacement you must remove both panel retainers and then the closeout panel from the condenser. Remove first the crfm mounting bracket bolts then detach the mounting brackets from the Radiator support. Start by disconnecting the antenna cable at the Radiator inlet and removing the clamp and hose from the Radiator and then unclip the transmission cooler lines and disconnect the upper line. The crfm assembly should be lifted up from its lower mounts while the top section gets tipped forward and the bottom section gets moved backward until all fan assembly bolts can be removed for removing the crfm from the Radiator. Install the fan assembly onto the Radiator by guiding it correctly and verify that lower tabs fit into the hooks before tightening fan assembly bolts to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). After placing the crfm assembly on lower mounts install the Radiator inlet hose by clamping it. Attach the transmission cooler lines onto the fan assembly before linking the upper transmission cooler line to the Radiator. Attach the crfm mounting brackets along with bolts to the Radiator support before securing them to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). When you install the crfm closeout panel you should also attach its retainers to the condenser while connecting electrical connectors to fan motors and hooking transmission cooler lines and engine wire harness to the fan assembly. The completion of the installation process includes reattaching the front fascia along with filling the cooling system.
