2005 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement process for thermal expansion valves (TXV) starts with refrigerant recovery and surge tank removal from its bracket. To begin the replacement you must first remove the TXV suction line along with its liquid line from their dash clip installation before loosening the TXV suction line and liquid line nuts. Begin installation by taking away both the suction line and liquid line from TXV before extracting the TXV screws to remove the TXV itself. The process requires immediate caps for each A-C component to stop system contamination along with washer disposal. The first step of installation includes uncapping all needed A-C components for which you should install new sealing washers before putting in the TXV and tightening its screws to 7 N.m torque. Fasten the liquid line and suction line onto the TXV by tightening the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Install the liquid and suction lines onto the dash clip before evacuating then charging the refrigerant system. Perform a fittings leak test with the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) before the surge tank installation onto its bracket.
