2005 GMC Canyon Canister Purge Valves Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the canister purge valves on 2005 GMC Canyon?
A: To replace the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve, and finally lift and support the vehicle enough to reach the valve via the wheelhouse and remove the left wheelhouse liner. Unplug the evap purge hose/purge pipe and the evap purge hose from the evap canister purge solenoid valve with the Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar). Next, disconnect it from the valve, remove the bolt that secures the valve to the engine, and take the valve out. For installation, align the new evap canister purge solenoid valve to the engine as well as to secure it with the bolt thoroughly bolting to 10 N.m (89 lb in) as explained on the Fastener Notice. Reconnect the electrical cord to the valve and also install the Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) to connect the evap purge hose/pipe and the evap purge hose to the valve. Finally, reinstall the left wheelhouse liner and lower the vehicle.
